FF-5908 is a cyanide-free zincate zinc immersion process that forms a dense, uniform zinc coating on aluminum alloys with excellent adhesion to the aluminum substrate, guaranteeing superior bonding performance for subsequent electroplating. It is especially suitable for surface treatment of die-cast aluminum alloys. Copper, nickel and other plating processes can be applied directly on this conversion coating.
FF-5908 can be used in steel baths or plastic barrels. If heating is required, flat steel heating coils are recommended. Thanks to its wide operating temperature range, manual temperature regulators can be used instead of automatic temperature controllers.
The concentration of FF-5908 is not critical for most aluminum alloy electroplating applications. However, for hard-to-plate alloys (e.g. 5000 series aluminum alloys), a concentration of 300 mL/L is recommended.
The simplest monitoring method is observing gas evolution on the aluminum surface: obvious gas generation indicates solution depletion. Replenish approximately 10% of the initial make-up volume.
| Item | Process Range | Optimal Value |
|---|---|---|
| FF-5908A | 200~350 mL/L | 300 mL/L |
| FF-5908B | 30~60 mL/L | 50 mL/L |
| Temperature | 10~30 ℃ | 18 ℃ |
| Time | 15~100 s | 20~60 s |
Note: 350 mL/L FF-5908A is adopted for hard-to-plate aluminum alloy workpieces.
